Ball state men's basketball defeated Miami on Feb. 16, 73-56, giving the Cardinals sole possession of first place in Mid-American Conference West Division.
Ball State shot 47 percent from the field and had three different players score in double digits. Senior forward Franko House led the way for the Cardinals with 19 points and six rebounds.
Sophomore forward Sean Sellers hit a 3-pointer with 2:30 left in the first half to give the Cardinals a 25-22 lead heading into the locker room. Ball State did not look back, shooting 41 percent from behind the 3-point line as a team.
The Cardinals outplayed Miami in numerous categories, outscoring the RedHawks at the free-throw line by 5 after House went a perfect 13 for 13 on the night. The Cardinals also made seven 3-pointers to the RedHawks three.
The closest Miami came to Ball State was with 12:38 left in the second half off Miami senior guard Geovonie McKnight’s jumper to bring the game within seven. Ball State’s defense locked down from there bringing them past the RedHawks on the road.
Ball State is now 17-9, 8-5 MAC and sits alone at the top of the West division following Toledo's loss to Central Michigan. The Cardinals next game will be Feb. 19 against Northern Illinois at Worthen Arena.
