The City of Muncie has installed stop signs on Neely Avenue by Noyer Complex after hearing concerns about the safety of students crossing the street.
This is a part of the plan to increase safety on campus — just as the plan to lower campus speed limits is.
"We installed bright [crosswalk] bars at Robert Bell and Neely, very visible," said Jim Lowe, associate vice president for facilities planning and management. "Those were student ideas."
Lowe said this was an area with heavy traffic and pedestrians, which is why they decided to install the four-way stop.
"It's amazing the amount of folks on campus who have applauded both [the four-way stop and speed limit]," Lowe said.
The university sent out a public safety advisory on Feb. 29 to warn students of the new four-way stop.
