Men’s volleyball went on the road to University Park, Pa., to take on No. 10 Penn State. Last season, the Cardinals were able to defeat the Nittany Lions 3-2 at Worthen Arena. This time around, Penn State had the upper hand, beating Ball State in three straight sets (15-25, 18-25, 19-25).

The gymnastics team participated in its first tri-meet of the weekend in Normal, Ill., against both Illinois State and Lindenwood. The Cardinals finished with a 192.050 total score and a second-place finish, less than a point behind the Redbirds' 192.150 total score.

After the Gladstein Invitational wrapped up on Jan. 23, the track and field team boasted three top-six finishers as well as three season-best performances. The next time the team will be in action will be at the Meyo Invitational at Notre Dame Feb. 5-6.

Men’s basketball won in double overtime on a controversial finish. The 88-87 double-overtime victory came after sophomore guard Francis Kiapway hit a 3-pointer after teammate and redshirt junior Ryan Weber stole the ball away from an Eastern Michigan player.

There was only one team competing at home on Jan. 23, and that was the women’s swimming and diving team. Ball State played host to Toledo and beat the Rockets 151-149 for the team’s first Mid-American Conference victory of the season.

Women’s basketball wrapped up the day at Western Michigan University to take on the Broncos. The Cardinals were able to come away with a 77-53 victory to bring its overall record to 14-4 and 6-1 in the MAC.

Sunday, Jan. 24

Gymnastics hosted Illinois State and Eastern Michigan at Worthen Arena for its second tri-meet of the weekend. Ball State outperformed Illinois State, but came in second with the team’s final score of 192.700 behind Eastern Michigan (195.050).

After a cancellation in the match the day before, the men’s volleyball team went to Saint Francis on Jan. 24 for its second match of the weekend. The Cardinals' 2-1 set lead was not enough, as they ended up falling to the Red Flash 2-3.
