Since the beginning of the semester, the Student Government Association has successfully implemented 16 points (76 percent) from their platform, such as extending dining and the Blue Loop shuttle hours.
President Jack Hesser said the student senate has done an outstanding job this semester working through the platform and it has surpassed his expectation.
“I’m incredibly proud of the work everyone’s done," Hesser said. "Every single cabinet member has just been so phenomenal in helping to make this a reality, especially senators. A lot of senators have helped out and I didn’t expect that. It’s really helped with the success of the organization.”
Hesser said there is a lot planned for next semester. He plans to push legislation that was approved by the student senate onto the administrative channel. One of those is pushing for gender neutral bathrooms around campus. He said it's something he would really like to see happen.
Along with pushing legislation, SGA plans on finishing the last five points of the platform. Hesser said most of the dates and locations for these points have been booked, and are in the works.
SGA has other projects planed as well, like monthly international student relations starting in February. They plan to pair up with groups like the multicultural organization and student ambassadors’ organization in hopes of creating more partnerships.
Hesser said he looks forward to what next semester will bring to the table.
“Now that [they] have gotten a feel for it this semester, I look forward to the senators bringing more issues to the senate next semester,” he said.
