With the holiday season fast approaching, one non-denominational ministry is making sure that those in need within the community are being taken care of.
Faith Builders is a non-profit, outreach ministry that serves East Central Indiana. The ministry is organized to bridge the gap between local churches and communities while providing help to those in need, according to their official Facebook page.
Faith Builders will be hosting a clothing and food giveaway and donation drop-off event on Dec. 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Dec. 5 from 12 to 5 p.m. The event will be held out of a garage located at the corner of Fifth and Madison Street. A free meal of ham, beans and cornbread will be provided.
“The event was created to reach out to people that sometimes go forgotten,” said Faith Builders member Virginia Young. “We want to make sure these people know they are loved and cared about.”
Young said anything will be accepted as donations, such as food, clothes, hygiene products and furniture. Items can be dropped off to the garage anytime either day, with all donations available for those in need to take at no charge.
“A lot of people just donate their stuff to places like Goodwill and forget the fact that there are people who can’t even afford that,” Young said. “By supplying things for free to these people, we know everything is going for a good cause and that means so much to us and the volunteers.”
Faith Builders is not only asking for donations, but also volunteers for the event.
“We always need lots of volunteers,” Young said. “You can just show up and we will find a way for you to help.”
Faith Builders has hosted multiple events throughout the year to give back to the community, but Young says it means more in December.
“The holidays are here and it’s amazing to just see everyone from all walks of life come together to help,” Young said. “We are all part of one big community and if people know we are here, then things in the community will continue to change for the best.”
