EA Games (Electronic Arts) has announced an eSports division of its company. As EA Competitive Gaming Division (CGD), the company plans on setting up tournaments on games, such as the recent Star Wars Battlefront, as well as its virtual sporting games.
CEO Andrew Wilson told gamesindustry.biz about the new initiative:
"As the latest step in our journey to put our players first, this group will enable global eSports competitions in our biggest franchises including FIFA, Madden NFL, Battlefield and more… CGD will seek to build a best-in-class program to centralize our efforts with new events, as well as the infrastructure to bring you the world's preeminent EA competitive experiences."
Heading up the CGD is Peter Moore, previously the chief financial officer of EA. The company's reasoning is his familiarity with EA Sports development, making him a prime candidate for the position. No successor has been chosen for his vacant position.
