Some students have received spam emails coming from what appear to be actual Ball State email accounts in the past couple weeks.
The emails say the students' BSU email account needs to be upgraded for more storage space, and prompts the receiver to click a link.
The Office of Information Security Services warns students not to open emails from unknown addresses. It is even more important to not do so if the email has attachments.
“Anyone can create fake 'from' accounts, even ones that appear to come from bsu.edu ... as common sense would suggest, if you don’t know the sender, don’t click on it,” said Joan Todd, Associate Vice President of Strategic Communications and Chief Communications Officer.
If a student is not sure whether an email is legitimate, he or she can forward it to security@bsu.edu.
