For the third year, three groups took the stage at Pruis Hall to raise awareness and supplies for three local charities during Akt Like A NUPE.

The Delta Iota chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity hosted the step show on Nov. 21 to raise monetary and item donations for Muncie Mission, Cardinal Kitchen and the Prostate Cancer Foundation

The atmosphere was loud and high-energy when each group took the stage, and dances such as “The Quan” were performed between acts.

Christopher Moore, adviser for the Delta Iota chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi and assistant hall director in Kinghorn Hall, said they make sure they do the fundraiser right before Thanksgiving to bring a lot of people and donations in.

“As an alumni, [this event] is dear to my heart, and it’s our part to help," Moore said. "If one person gets fed, if one person gets a toothbrush, if one person gets some deodorant, I’m happy. We believe in beneficence, so we’re Muncie, Muncie is us, Ball State and Muncie are synonymous. I think it’s bad once we separate that.”

Junior early childhood education major Kierstan Goins wanted to participate to “get out and do something different” with her time besides the usual routine of going to school and work and then going home.

“This is way out of my comfort zone, so I just wanted to step out and participate in Ball State community," Goins said. "It’s my first time [participating]."

Tori Elliott, a junior athletic training major, came to the event to support her friends in Crem de la Crem — one of the dance groups — and attended the event last year as well.

“I think it’s fun for girls to let loose and act like a guy sometimes and shimmy it out and act all cool and suave," Elliott said. “They excite you, and you wanna be excited and be part of the excitement and the party.”
