For BSA’s week of events, executive board members raised money for breast cancer by getting pied in the face at the Scramble Light on Oct. 28.
All proceeds went to the Little Red Door, a local cancer resource center in central Indiana that helps those diagnosed with cancer both financially and emotionally, according to the agency.
“The BSA executive board is here to get pied in the face and raise donations for such a great agency that needs our help,” said Destinee Burrellk, BSA Student Government Association representative. “It’s pretty amazing the reaction that we have gotten from people getting excited to participate or just stopping by to make a donation.”
Members had pink balloons, sported pink ponchos and danced along to upbeat music to attract students.
BSA Vice President Robert Miles said the energy of the board members was helping to make a difference despite the weather.
“It’s so gloomy outside, but we are here with colors and music with so much going on and people are noticing,” Miles said. “We are brightening people's day while making a difference.”
BSA member Darven Scrivener, who stopped by to pie some of his club members and friends, said he was proud of what BSA did.
“Our members are doing something to give back,” Scrivener said. “With how the day turned out this event could have got cancelled, but members chose to continue and get pied in the face non-stop for charity, and that just shows how dedicated the BSA is.”
The event attracted over 506 students raising an unofficial total of more than $75 to go to the Little Red Door.
The Daily News is waiting on an official count of all of the money raised and will update once the amount is totaled.
