State approves $40 million for renovations of Schmidt, Wilson residence halls

The Indiana State Budget Committee has approved $40 million for renovations of Schmidt and Wilson Residence Halls in the Johnson Complex.

State Rep. Sue Errington said she appreciates the university’s cooperation with the Committee to, “provide the best possible experience for the university’s students.”

“These improvements will make the building more energy efficient and transform the living space for students into rooms that are much more comfortable,” she said in a statement. “The updated space will meet the needs of students while providing physical improvements to the building.”

Theatre and Dance students who are part of the department’s Living-Learning Community will have a chance to live in the newly-renovated hall, according to bsu.edu.

The new building will include rectangular rooms for students which Errington said will be superior to the older-style rooms.

“The bathrooms will have more privacy and there will kitchenettes, student and social lounges, and meeting rooms,” she said.
