Mid-American Conference Commissioner, John Steinbrecher, has signed a three-year extension through the 2019-20 academic year, announced by the league Monday.
Steinbrecher's tenure began in 2009 and this marks his second unanimous contract extension rewarded by the Council of Presidents.
"I am very appreciative to the Council of Presidents and the confidence they have placed in me during my years as commissioner of the Mid-American Conference," Steinbrecher said in a statement. "We share the same vision and I look forward to continuing to lead this conference, our members and our students.”
Under Steinbrecher, the MAC has experienced increased exposure and opportunities, as well as long-term security.
He negotiated a deal with ESPN last summer which will bring national coverage for the conference until 2026-27. Steinbrecher also announced a deal with CBS Sports Network for football and basketball coverage.
The MAC has partnerships with five football bowl games. Steinbrecher has helped create multiple bowls and is a member of the NCAA College Football Oversight Committee.
Steinbrecher has helped the MAC become the only FBS conference to maintain its full membership over the last decade.
