2015-16 Newcomers

Lucia Fernandez - Madrid, Spain

Carmen Grande - Madrid, Spain

Cat Wells - Toledo, Ohio

Destiny Washington - Indianapolis, Ind.

Nakeya Penny - Logansport, Ind.

Four players signed their National Letter of Intent on April 17 to play for the Ball State women's basketball team next season.

Lucia Fernandez, Carmen Grande, Cat Wells and Destiny Washington join early signee Nakeya Penny as newcomers for the Cardinals in 2015-2016.

“I am really excited about next season and our incoming class is a big reason why," head coach Brady Sallee said in a statement. "I feel we have absolutely filled our needs with the young ladies we are adding to our team and look forward to coaching them all.”

Fernandez, a 6-foot-1 forward from Spain, played for a top club in Madrid and is a member of the junior and senior level clubs as well.

Sallee said Fernandez reminds him of forward Nathalie Fontaine.

Grande is also from Madrid. She is a 5-foot-8 guard who played for the U16 Spanish National Team and has played for two top clubs in Spain.

The Cardinals will also receive guard/forward help with the addition of Destiny Washington, who graduated from Lawrence North High School in 2014 and is transferring from Loyola University in Chicago.

She started 13 of 26 games in her first season for the Ramblers.

Cat Wells, a 5-foot-4 guard, rounds out the class for Ball State. She was a four-year letter winner and three-year starter at Notre Dame Academy in Toledo, Ohio where she graduated in 2013.

“Cat is the experienced, versatile guard we desperately needed next season," Sallee said in a statement. "She has grown tremendously in the time from her great high school career until now and I’m excited to watch her develop into what I believe can be one of the best guards in our league.”
