Senior Scott Baker started the game on the mound, but left the game after the first inning and suffered the loss.
Ball State held Purdue scoreless in the second and third, but the Boilermakers bounced back with a run in the fourth. Freshman Mitch Gibson was given the earned run in relief.
Purdue also added an unearned run in the sixth and an earned run off freshman Colin Brockhouse in the eighth.
Trevor Henderson, Devin Wilburn, Caleb Stayton, B.J. Butler and Trevor Simon also pitched in relief for the Cardinals.
Offensively, sophomore Alex Call led the way with two hits. He was the only Cardinal to record multiple hits in the game.
Ball State committed four errors on defense. They entered the game with the best fielding percentage and lowest number of errors in the Mid-American Conference.
Purdue is just the third team to shut out Ball State this season.
Ball State returns home on April 24 against Toledo to resume MAC play.
