The Ball State softball team suffered its second consecutive loss on Friday, as Kent State earned a 7-3 win at the Softball Field at First Merchants Ballpark Complex.

The second game of the day was canceled after a half-inning due to rain.

After two scoreless innings to start the game, the Flashes put up six in the top of the third inning.

The Cardinals responded with three in the bottom half of the inning. Junior Emily Dabkowski recorded an RBI single for the team's first hit of the day. After a fielder's choice and error allowed two runs to score, Ball State left the bases loaded.

Kent State added another run in the fourth to extend the lead to 7-3, which would hold for the rest of the game.

Emma Johnson held the Cardinals to three hits in the game while recording 12 strikeouts. Junior Nicole Steinbach took the loss for Ball State in a complete game, allowing seven earned runs and striking out seven.

Ball State will return to action starting at 5 p.m. on April 4 with a doubleheader against Buffalo at Miami (OH).
