Anthem Inc. cancels forum on data breach

Ball State employees who were looking forward to speaking with representatives from Anthem Inc. will have to wait. Next week's four open forums have been canceled.

In a campus-wide email Friday afternoon, the university announced that the third party medical provider's IT specialists would be unable to participate in a public forum because of the ongoing FBI investigation.

"Our IT staff and many others are working closely with the FBI. Therefore, we are limited in what we can say beyond what we have shared with you previously," Anthem said in a statement to the university. "Unfortunately, at this time, we have been advised against making additional public comments so as not to jeopardize the ongoing investigation."

The company has pledged to still visit individually with employees in order to address their concerns, the statement reads.

Ball State employees that want to visit with Anthem will have to schedule individual appointments at a later date. The university stated in the email that it is working on making the scheduling of appointments happen.

Over the past two weeks the university has hosted forums with the Indiana Attorney General's Office and a member of the FBI's cybercrime division where employees were able to ask questions regarding the breach and their identity thefts in an open forum setting.

The medical provider was scheduled to speak about their security breach and the two-year identity protection services they are offering free of charge.
