Ball State drops 2 games on 1st day of Tiger Invitational

Tiger Invitational Remaining Games

Feb. 14 - Mercer - 10:45 a.m.

Feb. 14 - Winthrop - 1:15 a.m.

Feb. 15 - Eastern Illinois - 10:45 a.m.



The Ball State softball team struggled on its first day of the Tiger Invitational on Friday, dropping two games by a combined score of 22-5.

Ball State dropped its first game of the day to Georgia State 10-4. In the second game of a back-to-back, the Cardinals lost to the host Auburn Tigers 12-1 in five innings.

Against Georgia State, Ball State racked up 10 hits on offense but were unable to turn it into runs, going 3-8 with runners in scoring position. 

Starting pitcher Jocelyn Rivera pitched all six innings for the Cardinals, giving up 12 hits and 10 runs, eight of which were earned. She struck out four and walked four. 

Reyna also had an RBI for Ball State.

The offense failed to match any production in the second game, recording just two hits. 

The team's lone run came on a solo shot in the third inning from sophomore Rachel Houck.

Junior Nicole Steinbach started on the mound, throwing two innings while giving up six hits and seven runs. She walked four and struck out one.

Utility player Sammi Cowger pitched two innings in relief. She allowed five earned runs on four hits.

The Cardinals are now 3-3 overall on the season. They will return to action at the Tiger Invitational on Feb. 14 with games against Mercer at Winthrop. The first game begins at 10:45 a.m.
