After a comeback victory in its first game of the Belmont/Lipscomb Music City Classic on Friday, the Ball State softball team competed in two close games, finishing 1-1 on Saturday.

Ball State defeated IUPUI 5-4 in eight innings and fell to Indiana State 6-5.

Against the Jaguars, the Cardinals trailed 4-1 heading into the fifth inning. They scored three runs in the next two innings, and capped their rally in the eighth inning to win the game.

Junior Emily Dabkowski led the Cardinals going 1-4 in the game with two RBIs, including the game-winning sacrifice fly in the eighth inning. Junior Sami Cowger had two RBIs as well.

Cowger pitched six innings for Ball State, allowing two hits while striking out four in relief.

Senior Hanne Steudemann recorded two hits for the Cardinals, including a double.

Ball State attempted another comeback against Indiana State, as they trailed 6-0 after two innings.

Sophomore Amanda Arnett hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh, but it wouldn't be enough to overcome the Sycamores.

Six Ball State players recorded a hit in the game, including Cowger who had an RBI.

Freshman Carolyn Wilmes started on the mound, going four innings while allowing four hits and three earned runs. Rivera pitched in relief, striking out two in three innings.

Ball State is now 2-1 on the season, and will close out tournament play tomorrow against Lipscomb at 3:30 p.m.
