Nearly 800 people enjoyed a two-hour gymnastics meet last Friday, Jan. 23, but the action began nearly 24 hours before the athletes hit the mat.
Rick Thompson, Sports Facilities supervisor, and his crew of six began preparing the gym at 9 p.m. the night the before, with the help of the Ultimate Frisbee team.
The morning shift, led by assistant manager Bart Ware, began at 6 a.m. the next day.
At 11 a.m., Irving Gym was finally ready for action.
The meet itself was a mere two hours, lasting from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Fans and athletes cleared out after a tough loss to Central Michigan, and Thompson and his crew began work to return the gym to its normal state.
The tear down and clean up lasted until midnight.
This lengthy 15-hour process takes place for every home gymnastics meet. The next home meet is Friday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. against Western Michigan.
