A new installment this semester will give students and faculty the opportunity to collaborate on an online storage system.
The Ball State Box account allows faculty and students to upload files as well as share those files with other Box account users. Accessing both shared and personal files from mobile devices through the Box mobile application will be possible as well.
Ball State is offering 50 gigabytes of storage to each student and faculty member that will be available until their graduation or departure from the university. Once they have left Ball State, they can then convert the Box account to a personal Box account.
Stuart Sipahigil, senior strategist for enterprise user engagement in the Information Technology Department, said Ball State received the service because they are a member of Internet2, an association of 250 universities that offers services, such as Box, to its members.
The University of California Berkely, Notre Dame, Cornell, Stanford, University of Michigan, Carnegie Mellon, Indiana University and the University of Illinois are also member universities.
Ball State pays a reduced subscription fee for the product because they are a member of Internet2. The payment options are set up by tiers, based on the population of the institution. Ball State is included in tier 2 and pays an annual fee of $65,000.
Students can create accounts at http://ballstate.box.com,using their Ball State username and password.
