The Ball State men's volleyball defeated Barton 3-0 on the road Saturday to improve to 2-0 on the season.
The Cardinals controlled the match from the first set, dominating the Bulldogs 25-10 in set one. The Bulldogs showed more life in the second set, but the Cardinals prevailed 25-22. Ball State finished the match with a 25-20 victory in the third set.
Offensively, the Cardinals were led by senior Matt Sutherland, who posted nine kills on 13 attempts.
Ball State posted 36 kills as a team, with a .475 attack percentage.
Junior Hiago Garchet finished the night with 33 assists on 36 attempts, falling two assists short of the team's total.
Garchet and Sutherland led the team in digs with five a piece.
The Cardinals also received defensive contributions from libero David Ryan Vander Meer who racked up four digs on the night, and attackers Marcin Niemczewski and Matt Walsh with three block assists apiece.
Walsh also posted one solo block, four kills and served two aces.
The Cardinals outmatched the Bulldogs in kills (36-26), digs (23-15) and blocks (10-2). Statistically the only advantage Barton held was aces (5-7).
Ball State will have its home opener Jan. 16 as it takes on Big Ten powerhouse No. 3 Penn State at 7:30 p.m.
