Ball State's early season road struggles continued against Western Kentucky, as the Cardinals lost 84-59.
The Cardinals are winless on the road this season.
Ball State received strong offensive performances from freshman Moriah Monaco, and sophomores Jill Morrison and Renee Bennett, all scoring in double figures. Monaco led the way with 13 points.
Junior Nathalie Fontaine, who leads the team with an average of 16.7 points per game, was held to seven points. Senior Shelbie Justice, who was averaging just under 10 points a game, was held scoreless.
The Cardinals shot just 36.7 percent for the game and made six three-pointers.
Ball State also struggled on the defensive end and allowed the most points so far this season. Western Kentucky went on a 25-4 run midway through the first half that Ball State was never able to recover from.
Western Kentucky was able to pull down 13 offensive rebounds and finished with 35 total. Ball State had 25 rebounds as a team.
The Cardinals allowed four players to score in double digits, including 21 points from Alexis Govan.
Ball State was 17-of-25 from the free throw line in the game while Western Kentucky was 12-of-18.
The loss drops the Cardinals to 4-6 on the season. Ball State will return to the court Dec. 30 when it travels to take on St. Louis.
