Update:
A bomb threat warning was issued this morning when a Burris Laboratory School teacher found a note indicating a threat.
The all-clear was given and activities resumed as normal around 11:45 a.m., just 15 minutes after the warning was announced.
Joan Todd, a Ball State spokesperson, said the specifics of the note are being withheld because it is part of an ongoing investigation.
University Police Department closed off University Avenue and Gilbert Street while officers determined whether the threat was credible.
The school was not evacuated.
“Evacuation is not always the safest response to a bomb threat,” Todd said.
Instead, she said, the decision is based on where students will be the most safe because a threat is not always assumed to be inside the building.
Earlier:
Ball State issued an all-clear at about 11:45 a.m. after alerting students to a bomb threat at Burris Laboratory School just 15 minutes prior.
No students were evacuated, and the university tweeted a link to its evacuation protocol.
“The decision to evacuate or secure in place is determined based on where individuals will be safest,” the website says. “A threat is not assumed to be inside the building. Evacuation is not always the safest response to a bomb threat.”
Details to come.
