Friends and family gathered to support six seniors as the squad lost to Miami 135-93 Saturday in the team’s final regular season home meet of the year. This was the team’s third loss in a row.

The first win of the match came in the fourth event, the 50-meter freestyle, as freshman Logan Kisinger posted a time of 21.94. The Cardinals’ only other win came in the seventh event from senior Drew Tharp. Tharp swam the 200-meter butterfly and posted a season-best time of 1:52.40.

Jake Brehmer also followed up his near record-breaking performance against Buffal by placing first in the 3-meter diving event. Brehmer posted a score of 329.10.

Even University President Jo Ann Gora came to show her support for the team as she had promised them.

“They were the only ones to take me up on my offer of free lunch with the president, so I told them I would come and watch them swim,” Gora said.

Gora also took part in honoring the six seniors who will be graduating in May.

The team will now be preparing to compete in the Mid-American Conference Championships.

With just under four weeks to prepare until the MAC championships, head coach Bob Thomas hopes to have all his swimmers post their personal-best times in the conference tournament.

“We have one more week of intense training before we go into our taper, where we will gradually decrease the intensity of our training to allow our muscles to build more strength,” Thomas said. “The goal is for this to help produce faster swims.”

The MAC championship will take place March 6-8 in Buffalo, N.Y.
