Thirty-one perspective employers who had never been to campus before joined 75 others networking with students at the annual spring Cardinal Job Fair in Worthen Arena.
The Career Center hosts a job fair every semester, but Career Center director Jim McAtee said the employer turn out made this one stand out.
The fair included representatives from Apple Inc., Angie’s List, Sallie Mae and the United States State Department among others.
Naomi Thompson, program director for Camp Crosley YMCA, was extremely excited to make an appearance at the career fair.
“We are looking for [students] to fill every position this summer. Any major is welcome,” Thompson said.
At 11:30 a.m. the career fair was filled with more than 100 students.
“We can see anywhere from 650 to 850 students, it all depends on the employers that show up.” said McAtee.
Since the career fair attracts various majors and employers, David Cleveland, Communications and Publicity coordinator, said the Career Center tries to network students with employers to give them the best opportunity after their career at Ball State.
“We want to do everything we can for our students to have their best chance of success,” Cleveland said.
Some students don’t attend until their junior or senior year. Sean Wolfe, a senior public relations major, is a first-timer at the Cardinal Career Fair.
“I have never attended a career fair, but I have had two internships,” Wolfe said. ”I did my research and printed off 20 resumes for today.”
Wolfe said she hopes the career fair will give her good connections after she graduates.
“I know I won’t get offered a job today, but at least I will have a face to a name,” she said.
The next large-scale career fair will be held in the fall. Throughout the semester, the Career Center will host a Criminal Justice Career Day and a Teacher Fair along with many workshops.
