First half
Akron led Ball State at the half 34-28.
The Zips scored in the first three seconds off a Deji Ibitayo layup. They were led by Quincy Diggs, who managed to score 11 points in the first half.
However, Ball State remained very vocal and defensively sound as Majok Majok recorded three blocks and grabbed seven rebounds. Ball State fell apart offensively in the half by committing nine turnovers and eight fouls.
The intensity picked up in the last four minutes of the half as Ball State got to the foul line more often, shooting 12-16 free throws.
Ball State was led by Chris Bond, Jesse Berry and Mark Alstork who all chipped in seven points each.
Second half
The second half started out a little choppy as Alstork and Ibitayo got called for double technical fouls.
Majok picked up the slack on offense by converting back-to-back three-point plays to trim the Akron lead to 45-38 at 14:13. Bo Calhoun later tied the game at 45 by completing a three-point play of his own with 12:06 left starting a 12-0 run.
Diggs was too much for the Cardinals to handle as he finished with 21 points.
Akron kept Ball State under control as they put them away for the 72-68 win.
