It’s the season of pies, and a homemade pie is always better.
Instead of waiting for someone else to serve you up a slice during holiday gatherings, go ahead and make one for yourself.
Share it with others or go into an apple pie coma. Treat yo’ self.
Apple filling ingredients:
5 medium apples (Granny Smith is always recommended)
3 tablespoons of flour
1/3 cup of sugar
1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
A dash of salt
1. Remove the skin from the apples (I used a peeler) and core it, and then cut the apples into wedges about 1/2-inch thick.
2. Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl and then add in the apples and mix.
3. Dump it into the pie shell when it’s ready.
Pie crust ingredients:
2/3 cup and two tablespoons of butter
2 cups of flour
1 teaspoon of salt
4-6 tablespoons of ice water
Materials:
A fork, a pie pan, canola oil, a rolling pin (or clean wine bottle) and a bowl
1. Use a fork to mix the butter, flour and salt in a bowl. Add in cold water as needed.
2. When everything sticks together, pack it into two balls of equal size.
3. Put a pinch of flour on the countertop to keep the dough from sticking too much, but do not add a lot of flour or it won’t roll properly.
4. Use a rolling pin (or clean wine bottle) to flatten the two balls of dough separately.
5. Once the dough is flattened enough, spray the pie pan and then place the dough in. Make sure it covers the bottom and the edges. Then, make multiple holes with a fork.
6. After you add the filling, put the top of the crust on and make sure to join the edges with the bottom crust. It’s important to make a few cuts on the top to avoid an exploding pie.
7. Cook it in the oven at 350°F for about 30-40 minutes or until golden brown.
8. Let the pie cool for about an hour to avoid the filling running. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream for the ultimate experience.
