Alumnus David Letterman gave his view on university President Jo Ann Gora’s retirement announcement for June 2014.

The host of the network television show “Late Night with David Letterman” graduated in 1969 from Ball State. In 2007, Letterman attended the dedication of the David Letterman Communication and Media Building.

“As I have visited Ball State during President Gora’s tenure, I’ve been amazed at both the number and the quality of new facilities and resources she has helped bring to the campus,” Letterman said in a public statememnt today. “Without question, she has not only raised the profile of the university, [but] she has elevated the opportunities and ambitions of the students and faculty.”

Letterman, who is the namesake of a leacture series that has featured talk show host Oprah Winfrey, newscaster Ted Koppel and Ball State alumna and Apple’s recent hire Angela Ahrendts, expressed his feelings on Gora’s retirement in one, simple sentence.

“We will miss her,” he said.
