Ball State didn’t miss a step all weekend.
Ball state women’s volleyball dominated Illinois-Chicago in straight sets 25-14, 25-11 and 25-14 to finish the weekend at a perfect 4-0.
The Cardinals jumped out to a 10-5 lead in the first set before finding their rhythm. Going on a 10-1 run, Ball State extended the lead to 20-6 against Illinois-Chicago.
Illinois-Chicago tried to rally and cut the lead to 10, but there was too much firepower from Ball State. A kill from Alex Fuelling gave her team the final point, and was her third kill of the set.
Fuelling finished with 10 kills to lead the team, and also led with 15 digs.
The second set was similar, with Ball State taking a 5-0 lead, using three kills from Kylee Baker to get there. After a timeout, Illinois-Chicago scored three straight, but Ball State went on a run to extend the lead to 14-6.
Leading 21-10, Ball State used kills from Mackenzie Kitchel and Fuelling to put Illinois-Chicago away and win the set.
Kitchel finished with nine kills on 21 attempts.
With its back against the wall, Illinois-Chicago came out strong to start the third set. After Illinois-Chicago took a 7-8 lead off a kill from Casey Harris, Ball State responded with a 7-3 run to put itself in front 14-11.
Leading 23-14, Ball State used kills from Hayley Benson and Kitchel to seal the match.
The win moves Ball State to 8-3 on the season.
