UPDATE: Reports on trash toters on fire early Thursday morning are just part of an ongoing problem, Muncie Fire Department Acting Battalion Chief Larry Delk said.

Three green trash toters on Beechwood Avenue were on fire and one on Ashland Avenue had already been extinguished by the time MFD arrived, Delk said. The report came in at 3:48 a.m.

MFD Chief Investigator Rob Mead said trash-related fires, typically in residential areas near the south side of campus, have occurred every weekend since Ball State students returned for the Fall Semester.

“There’s never any witnesses, and it is typically in the alleys,” Mead said. “It also usually involves types of furniture, like mattresses and couches, that college kids leave out.”

Mead said he would appreciate anyone who knows anything about dumpster fires near campus call the Muncie Fire Department at 765-747-4807.

The Muncie Fire Department responded and extinguished the fires.
