Low turnout at the Quad Bash caused the director of University Program Board to cancel a speech by head football coach Pete Lembo.

“Due to lack of turnout at the beginning, we didn’t want to have coaches speak to an empty crowd,” said Kalyn McDaniel, UPB director.

The coach was set to take the stage around 5 p.m.

Lembo has been Ball State's head football coach for three years now and this season marks his 21st year coaching football.

Sid Chowdhary, a senior actuarial science major, was disappointed no coaches were there.

He said even though it was not well advertised, he would have liked to see them speak.

Lindsey Jessie, a junior biology major, said the speech would have allowed her to put a face with the names of Ball State coaches.

“They don’t talk about the coaches much,” Jessie said.

McDaniel attributed the low attendance to the fact that some posters had incorrect starting times.

A DJ and Code Red, a Ball State dance group, performed for the crowd that showed up as the event continued.

To finish out the show, rock band Gentlemen took the stage.

This was the first time the Indianapolis band played at Ball State. The set list was made up of some original songs and some covers.

They usually perform at bars and various venues, so the Quad Bash was a bit different, said drummer Andy Heck.

Aside from the music, a new craft was introduced this year called "spin art." A blank white Frisbee was transformed into art with paint splatters.

Kimi Dahl, a biomechanics grad student, was impressed with the project.

She said it was a neat design and she was happy it was there.
