MUNCIE, Ind. — A central Indiana judge has sentenced a Muncie man to 12 years in prison for stalking his former girlfriend, including calling her more than 1,000 times over a two-week period.
Delaware County Judge Marianne Vorhees told 25-year-old Darryl J. Goodwin during Wednesday's hearing that "your actions speak very, very loudly to me."
The Star Press reported Goodwin was convicted of two counts of stalking, and had earlier been convicted of battering and harassing the same woman.
Prosecutors say Goodwin stalked his ex-girlfriend during a two-week period in January and February in which he sent her more than 800 text messages, some of them threatening, and called her cellphone more than 1,000 times.
Chief Trial Deputy Prosecutor Eric Hoffman called Goodwin's crimes "vile and disturbing."
