Incoming freshman class ‘strongest’ yet for Ball State

This year’s incoming freshman class is one of the strongest in Ball State history, although not the largest.

The average SAT scores of the incoming class saw a 25 point increase from the previous year, rising from 1582 to 1607. The average incoming high school GPA is 3.42, compared to last year’s 3.35.

This was one of the strongest and most competitive applicant pools in Ball State history, said Tom Taylor, vice president for enrollment, marketing and communications.

“It is our strongest freshman class ever,” he said. "Not as large as some, but academic profile is the strongest ever.”

The class includes 3,673 students, an increase from last year but outdone by the incoming 2011 class, which had 3,877 students.
