Play for the Ball State field hockey team will begin this Sunday when it travels to Harrisonburg, Va., to take on James Madison.
On Thursday the Mid-American Conference announced its field hockey preseason polls. Ball State was ranked sixth out of six conference teams and was given no first-place votes.
Last season the team finished 4-14 overall with a 0-5 mark in conference play. The team returns 10 players and looks to add 10 additional freshmen.
Reigning MAC-Champion Miami was voted favorite to win the regular-season title. With two each, Central Michigan and Kent State finished in a tie for postseason championship voting.
