The David Owsley Museum of Art previewed two new exhibits to the public on Friday night.
The museum has been undergoing renovations for nearly two years, adding Indian and African art exhibitions as well as updating existing exhibits.
More than 100 people attended the preview of the newly expanded museum that coincided with Quad Bash.
“I thought it was really neat that the museum opened during the Quad Bash. It's fun exploring and I would definitely come back again,” said Michelle Strong, a senior special education major.
The museum has been having soft openings of the new galleries, meaning there haven’t been any official events yet.
Within the first hour of the opening nearly 100 people walked in.
“This is a really great turnout. We are glad the Quad Bash has been making many announcements and bringing people in. Everyone seems to be having a great time” said Tania Said, director of education.
Many students were impressed by the overall experience of the museum.
“I’m definitely coming back there are so many different cultures represented here that’s what I like most about it,” said Tara Blackard, a freshman performance major.
Junior landscape architecture major Nelly Chavez noted the museum’s push for diversity.
“I felt like at first there wasn’t much variety but I like the new additions and find it to be interesting,” Chavez said.
For freshman social work major Dominique Crumbaugh, it was her second visit to the museum.
“It’s just awesome, it makes me wish I had art work like this in my house,” Crumbaugh said.
Visitors had the opportunity to participate in a scavenger hunt around the museum and explore the new art galleries. Free ice cream, posters and T-shirts were some incentives during the event.
A full grand opening event is planned for Sept. 29, and it will be free and open to everyone.
