RICHMOND, Ind. — Police in eastern Indiana are investigating a report that an officer may have violated department police by handing his loaded gun to a man to shoot a deer that had been severely injured when it was hit by a car.
Richmond Police Chief Kris Wolski tells the Palladium-Item there is an ongoing investigation, but wouldn’t provide additional details.
Jerry Anderson said he reported the incident to police. He said the deer was struck in front of his house about 10 a.m. Saturday. He said after retrieving his pistol to shoot the deer, he came out and saw someone else shoot it. He said his wife told him the officer had tears in his eyes and couldn’t do it, so he handed his gun to someone else.
