The No. 1 Ball State softball team defeated No. 6 Ohio to advance in the 2013 Mid-American Conference Softball Tournament.
The Cardinals jumped ahead early, and held a 6-2 lead after four innings. The Bobcats rallied with three runs in the sixth to tie the game at 6 heading into the seventh inning.
Freshman pitcher Nicole Steinbach pitched 5.2 innings, and allowed 12 hits and six runs. After the Ohio rally, Ball State freshman Kelsey Schifferdecker would relive Steinbach.
Schifferdecker shut the Bobcats out in the top of the seventh, striking out one batter in the process.
In the bottom of the inning, junior slugger Taylor Rager nailed a walk-off RBI triple to bring in the game’s final run.
Rager finished the day with one run of her own, two hits and five RBIs.
With the win, Ball State earns a rematch game against Northern Illinois. The Huskies knocked the Cardinals out in the winner’s bracket on Thursday.
