Ind. Sunday alcohol sales ban likely to remain

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana's longtime ban on Sunday retail alcohol sales will likely continue for at least another year as a vote isn't being scheduled on a bill to lift it.

House Public Policy Committee chairman Bill Davis says he doesn't plan to hold a vote before next week's deadline for the bill to clear the panel. Davis said Wednesday he didn't hear any compelling reasons during a public hearing last week for changing the law.

Supporters of allowing Sunday sales say it would be more convenient for customers and eliminate an outdated law.

Indiana is the only state that prohibits retail carryout sales of beer, wine and liquor on Sundays, even though alcohol sales are allowed at restaurants, bars, concerts and sporting events.
