Ball State to play five games in three days

Coming out of the first weekend of play, Ball State is headed to Conway, Ark. for five games in three days in the Central Arkansas Tournament.


After the opening weekend, the Cardinals are 3-1 and have their freshmen pitchers and strong play at the plate to credit with their favorable outcomes.


“Sometimes good pitching is going to be a challenge and you have to find a way to scores runs,” coach Craig Nicholson said after the KSU Classic.


The team scored 33 runs throughout four games in Georgia last weekend. Ball State will play five games will be played this weekend in Arkansas along with the opportunity to score more runs and increase batting averages.


The Cardinals have showed their capabilities at the plate early in the season and recorded six home runs after their first tournament of the season.


Ball State hit 70 home runs in the 2012 season, which is currently the Mid-American Conference record as well as the school record.


Junior left fielder Jennifer Gilbert has an opportunity at breaking the Ball State record for career home runs this weekend. The current record was set in 2012. 


Gilbert was responsible for 16 of the teams 33 runs scored over the two-day tournament last weekend. 


CollegeSportsMadness.com named Gilbert the Madness Mid-American Conference Softball Player of the Week after her performance at the plate last weekend. Gilbert has now won the award three times in her career. 


The five-game weekend for Ball State will begin Friday as it takes on Creighton at 11 a.m. Grambling State, Northern Iowa, Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Central Arkansas are among the other opponents Ball State will see Saturday and Sunday.
