PLAINFIELD, Ind. — A pileup with more than 40 vehicles has closed Interstate 70 in both directions about 20 miles west of Indianapolis
Indiana Department of Transportation spokeswoman Debbie Calder says all lanes of I-70 are expected to remain closed until at least 10 p.m. She says westbound traffic is being routed onto Indiana 267 and eastbound traffic at Indiana 39.
Calder says the main crash occurred at the 55 mile marker, but a second crash involving at least two jackknifed semitrailer rigs occurred nearby.
A photo posted at www.wishtv.com showed at least five rigs angled side-by side, each one completely blocking all lanes in one direction.
Meteorologist Brad Herold of the National Weather Service says snow was falling at the time of the crash.
There's no immediate word on injuries.
