MUNCIE — A jury has convicted a Muncie man of murder and obstruction of justice in the slaying of a woman whose remains were set on fire along a street in the city.
The Delaware Circuit Court jury deliberated about four hours before finding 25-year-old Terry Rutledge guilty in the December 2011 asphyxiation of 40-year-old Tonia Ingram. The Star Press reports he faces a maximum prison term of 68-years when he’s sentenced Dec. 27.
Two others, 37-year-old Regina Miller and 34-year-old Antowyn Warren, were charged with assisting a criminal and obstruction of justice, for helping Rutledge remove Ingram’s body from Miller’s home after she died.
Defense attorneys maintained Miller was responsible for the slaying. Testimony indicated Rutledge was involved with both Miller and Ingram at the time.
