Ball State men’s tennis is set to compete in the University of Texas Invitational in Austin, Texas.

Play will begin Friday and wrap up Sunday.

Texas is home to one of the nation’s state-of-the-art tennis facilities. The Penick-Allison Tennis center features 12 courts and more than 1,800 stadium seats.

This will be the team’s first action since the ITA Ohio Valley Regional on Oct. 19. In the regional, junior Austin Smith was the only Ball State player to play on the final day of the competition. He went 2-0 on the final day.

The Texas Invitational will be the team’s final event of the fall. The team will be off until Jan. 13, when it is scheduled to play against the Big Ten’s Northwestern.

The team has traveled to various places in the country this fall season. It started with the Milwaukee Classic then traveled to Memphis, Tenn. Ball State will not host a tennis match until Jan. 25, when it hosts Detroit Mercy at the Muncie YMCA.

With the long layover, several members of Ball State’s team — including senior Dalton Albertin and sophomore Ray Leonard — will use the invitational to keep in form heading into the winter.

The Texas Invitational will provide a variety of competition. Some schools that Ball State will face include Princeton, Texas Tech and Texas at San Antonio.

Texas is led by Soren Hess-Olesen, who was ranked No. 42 in the country in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s preseason polls. Texas also has Daniel Whitehead, who was ranked No. 46.
