In the Mid-American Conference preseason poll released Tuesday, the Ball State men’s basketball team was picked to finish fourth in West Division standings.
Toledo was predicted to win the division with 20 first place votes, followed by Eastern Michigan (four first-place votes), Western Michigan, Ball State, Northern Illinois and Central Michigan.
While the 24-member MAC News Media Panel doesn’t expect much out of the Cardinals, it did select Jesse Berry to the West Division Preseason All-MAC Team.
The junior guard joins Northern Illinois’ Abdel Nader, Western Michigan’s Nate Hutcheson, and Toledo’s duo of Rian Pearson and Julius Brown on the list.
Berry is Ball State’s top returning scorer — 9.7 points per game — from last season’s 15-win team, while serving as the main offensive threat coming off the bench.
He shot 35.7 percent from 3-point range and played in every game as a sophomore.
NCAA Tournament qualifier Ohio was picked to finish first in the MAC East Division with 19 first-place votes.
