Three Air Jam teams take home the win

Nineteen teams shimmied, shook and flipped for a sold out John R. Emens Auditorium on Thursday night during the 25th annual Air Jam.

Tara Cahill, a junior accounting major, and Zach Hartley, a senior business administration major, hosted the event as emcees.

Poker chips, dice, blackjack and weddings were prominent on the stage to fit this year's Homecoming theme "Play Your Cards Right."

Three teams played their hands perfectly and took home a win.

Studebaker West won the residence hall category, the only team in the category. The team of 16 got the crowd on its feet and dancing to V.I.C.'s "Wobble Baby." The group also incorporated country line dancing while throwing fake money on stage.

Lambda Chi Alpha and Alpha Omicron Pi danced away with a win in the greek category and the crowd favorite category. The performance included the popular "Gangnam Style" by Psy and a "Magic Mike" inspired skit.

Alpha Omicron Pi's Lizz Frick, a senior advertising major, choreographed and taught the routine to the rest of the group.

"I thought I was too harsh and strict on the everyone, but it got us a win," Frick said. "It's one of the best moments in my life, and I'm going to go celebrate."

Outlet, hip-hop dance troupe, also walked away with two wins including the independent category and were awarded overall winner of the night's competition.

Starting off the routine with Kanye West's "Gold Digger" the dance group stuck with the theme and danced to music that surrounds money and gambling. The group had been practicing three hours a day, three times week since the second week of school said Jenni Poffenberger, a senior apparel design major.

"All our hard work has paid off, and I'm going to go have a good time and party tonight," Poffenberger said.

Homecoming royalty was announced at the end of the night, crowing Justin Friend of Lambda Chi Alpha Homecoming king and Caitlin Cambron of Woody/Shales halls Homecoming queen.
