Studebaker East will allow residents beginning Oct. 18

Students who weren't able to move into Studebaker East at the start of the academic year because of construction delays will move into the renovated building next month.

"Fall Break was the earliest time we had hoped for," Tony Proudfoot, associate vice president for Marketing and Communications, sad. "We knew it would be sometime in the spring, so we're very pleased that it's Fall Break and it won't be later in the semester."

Students can move in beginning at noon Oct. 18 and must be moved in by 7 p.m. Oct. 27.

The university will provide moving assistance for students to move from Botsford/Swinford in Johnson A to Studebaker East. About 300 students will be making the move.

The assistance will include moving boxes as well as carts to be used for transporting clothes on hangers.

There will be one-hour sign up slots for help moving from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day, including weekends. Eight residents can receive assistance during each time slot, Proudfoot said.

On the day a student moves, their items will travel in a moving truck and the student will ride in a van to the residence hall.

Despite not being able to move into the hall right away, Proudfoot said students have taken the wait well.

"Students have generally been very positive about how organized and accommodating everything has been," he said. "As far as we're concerned, we would've preferred not to have done it, but the way we've gone about this has been very well received by the residents."
