Local author of "Where I am Wearing?: A Global Tour to the Countries, Factories and People That Make Our Clothes", Kelsey Timmerman, held an event at the Emens Auditorium where he discussed his global quest to put names and personalities to the people who made his clothes.
Timmerman discussed the issue of poverty and how students can get involved in their community.
His book was first released in Fall 2008 and was chosen for the 2012 Freshman Connections Common Reader.
President Jo Ann Gora introduced Timmerman who was dressed in a Ball State shirt and jeans.
"I admit that I was nervous and had a dream that I woke up in my underwear," Timmerman said.
The beginning of the presentation was light as he was making jokes and warming the audience up.
He pulled out his "Jingle These" boxers which he wrote about in his book, explaining a little about his journey to discover where his underwear was made. He was very interactive with the audience asking them to check the tags of their shirts and see where they were made. There were answers from all of the world.
He spoke about his freshman year in college and explained how he was not exactly sure what he wanted to be.
He decided to major in anthropology because he enjoyed learning about people and how they live around the world.
Timmerman mentioned that Indiana Jones was an inspiration for his work and stressed how college is very important and college students will be more educated than 93 percent of the world.
He also went on to say that education is important.
Timmerman encourages community involvement through various groups and organizations, such as Big Brother and Big Sister and through Student Voluntary Services which connects thousands of Ball State students to the Muncie community.
"He had his heart in it and was genuine. He moved me to want to make an impact on someone's life, even the small things could make a difference," freshman Myah Reeve said. He ends his presentation with the question "What will your impact be?"
Following his presentation, Timmerman held a question and answer session and signed copies of his book.
