South Florida at Ball State, Saturday
Ball State is coming off an impressive and wild win over in-state rival Indiana. The Cardinals could build off that performance with a strong showing against a BCS team that is actually good. South Florida normally would be able to handily beat this Ball State team, but it hosts No. 4 Florida State next week. It will be close enough for hope.
Score: 34-24 South Florida
Massachusetts at Miami, Ohio, Saturday
UMass is one of the worst teams in the FBS. It was expecting make the move up from FCS, but it doesn't mean teams will give UMass any sympathy. Miami got hammered by Boise State and will be looking at UMass as a way to regroup.
Score: 30-17 Miami, Ohio
Bowling Green at Virginia Tech, Saturday
Virginia Tech was ranked No. 13 in the country, but then it played a Pittsburgh squad that lost to both Youngstown State and Cincinnati handily. Virginia Tech won't have a letdown against Bowling Green, which has had two tough losses. Bowling Green will carry a third loss before it faces Rhode Island next week.
Score: 37-14 Virginia Tech
Central Michigan at Iowa, Saturday
Iowa is a flawed team that is scoring only 17 points a game through its non-conference schedule. But it's still a Big Ten team and Central Michigan isn't the same program it has been in the past. It will be interesting to see how much the Hawkeyes put up against the Chippewas defense.
Score: 24-10 Iowa
Norfolk State at Ohio, Saturday
Ohio let it get far too close against Marshall last week and almost made the chance at an undefeated season disappear immediately. Ohio will probably pick up a loss or two along the way but it has been getting chatter from the media.
Score: 35-7 Ohio
Connecticut at Western Michigan, Saturday
Western Michigan has disappointed early on with returning quarterback Alex Carder. Statistically, the Broncos have played fine on offense and been a bit of a sieve on defense. Connecticut's defense is strong, but hasn't managed much on offense. Western Michigan rebounds with a big win over Connecticut.
Score: 27-23 Western Michigan
Kansas at Northern Illinois, Saturday
Northern Illinois could easily be 3-0 right now if not for a heartbreaking 18-17 loss to Iowa. The Hawkeyes aren't the same as in years past, but the team is still solid competition. Kansas has not looked sharp so far through three games under new coach Charlie Weis. This will be a close game throughout with the edge going to the home team.
Score: 27-24 Northern Illinois
Eastern Michigan at Michigan State, Saturday
Eastern Michigan couldn't have asked for a worse start to the season. An 0-3 start that culminated in a rout thanks to a Purdue squad looking for revenge after Notre Dame. Unfortunately for Eastern Michigan, it will have to deal with the same problem this week when it plays Michigan State, which is also reeling from a loss to Notre Dame.
Score: 41-13 Michigan State
Coastal Carolina at Toledo, Saturday
Toledo is still the favorite in the Mid-American Conference East and has shown it for the most part this season. Coastal Carolina is a small step that Toledo will handle pretty easily. Coastal Carolina's schedule has been pretty easy, and it likely won't be ready for Toledo's firepower.
Score: 35-15 Toledo
Akron at Tennessee, Saturday
Akron has looked pretty awful, that is, until it faced Morgan State on Saturday. Akron put up 66 points against that team, but will face its toughest challenge against Tennessee. Quarterback Tyler Bray will have a field day with Akron's secondary. At least until he's removed for second string.
Score: 44-10 Tennessee
