Score: Ball State 38, Indiana 25
Ball State started the second half with great field position following a kickoff that went out of bounds, but couldn't take advantage. The offense only picked up one first down before being forced to punt.
Indiana had the same luck on its first drive, forced to punt from deep in its own territory.
Within two plays, Ball State was inside Indiana territory after a 10-yard run by running back Jahwan Edwards down the left sideline.
The drive was capped off by perhaps the most impressive play in the Pete Lembo era.
Quarterback Keith Wenning handed the ball off to wide receiver Jamill Smith on sweep play to the left side. Smith stopped, turned around and lobbed the ball to Wenning who was racing for the endzone. Wenning caught the ball and landed for a touchdown, giving Ball State a 31-25 lead.
Indiana couldn't respond on the next drive as a sack by linebacker Kenneth Lee put the offense in a difficult third and long situation. Quarterback Cameron Coffman nearly picked up the first down with his legs but was two yards short.
Ball State drove again on its next possession and got back into the redzone following a series of first down passes. Wenning hit tight end Zane Fakes for the second time in the game on a 15-yard touchdown pass to put Ball State up 38-25 with 4:11 left in the third quarter.
The Cardinal defense stood up again against Indiana on the next drive, forcing another punt. Ball State used the remaining clock in the third quarter to set up a drive for the fourth quarter that could put the game out of reach for Indiana.
