Fire destroys diner in New Castle

NEW CASTLE, Ind. - Customers at a diner in an eastern Indiana city were evacuated shortly before a fire destroyed the building.

Henry County Police Capt. Kim Cronk said Bill's Diner in New Castle was evacuated about 4:45 p.m. after someone in the building smelled smoke.

Cronk told The Indianapolis Star there were no injuries.

He said flames were shooting out of the building as firefighters worked to contain them. He said the New Castle building, about 45 miles east of Indianapolis, couldn't be salvaged.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
