Until Sunday's game, the Ball State field hockey team had scored seven total goals.
It surpassed that total on Sunday, putting up eight goals against Lindenwood in an 8-2 victory.
It was the Cardinals' first home game of the season, something head coach Beth Maddox was relieved about.
"Any win is a positive," Maddox said. "To win at home is always what you strive for; it's your field. There's a certain level of pride that you have to have. The girls had it today."
Redshirt freshman Bianca Velez started Ball State off with a goal just three minutes into the game, off a penalty corner shot. Freshman Bethany Han assisted on the score.
Sophomore Tarel Teach scored just two minutes later, her first of the two she would score in the victory. She scored the goals off seven shots.
"I think I did well," Teach said. "I think it was a really important win for us. We all played together."
Maddox thought Teach earned her goals.
"[Teach] attacked today," Maddox said. "She had a presence about her, and she wanted the ball. She took her space, and she wanted to create opportunities and options for people, and by doing that, it ended up having options for herself."
Following Teach's goal, senior Devon Bell got into the scoring outburst by beating the goalkeeper around the edge for another point. Han once again assisted on the play. Han finished with two assists.
Sophomore Tori Widrick scored a goal in the second half, bringing her season total to four goals, which now leads the team.
Freshman Maddi Elliott received her first win of the season at goalkeeper. Her record is now at 1-4.
"Maddi's leadership and vocal ability really helped us," Maddox said. "She's able to see things and talk to the team and does a really nice job."
Maddox also praised Elliott's fellow freshman goalkeeper, Shelby Henley
Ball State plays again next weekend against Missouri State on Saturday.
Despite the wide margin of victory, Maddox said she still saw room for her team's improvement to play strong throughout the match.
"It would've been nice to have 60 minutes of awesome, but we'll settle for 45."
