This year's Family Weekend will bring a variety of activities for students to enjoy with their families.

"I'm excited for my family to come and see where I live and what I do," freshman education major Maddie Penney said. "My family hasn't really planned anything, but I'm sure we will do a lot of the activities put on by Ball State."

From 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday, Cardinal Lanes will host "Rock and Bowl" in the L.A. Pittenger Student Center lower level.

This event is free for students and they can can bring one guest along for free as well. Any additional guests cost $5.

There will be bowling and billiards, as well as open use of the foosball and pingpong tables. There will be pizza and soda for those attending.

The football game against South Florida is at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Scheumann Stadium.

"I know that I will be taking my family to the football game as well as bringing my siblings to Late Nite," said Doug Sant, a sophomore social studies education and political science major.

Late Nite's theme for Saturday is Late Nite Sugar Rush, which is aimed at the younger group of siblings and cousins, who will receive free candy from UPB. Late Nite starts at 9 p.m. in the Student Center.

Sunday is not only the final day of Family Weekend, but it also has a chance for families to enjoy brunch with Charlie Cardinal.

"[Breakfast with Charlie] usually brings a crowd of 700-900 people, and is great fun for the family," Elizabeth Poore, director of operations, said.

From 9 a.m. to noon in Noyer Complex, Charlie will enjoy brunch with the visiting families.

Poore said the event allows students to take their parents to a buffet-style brunch as well as give them a chance to take a family picture with Charlie. She said the Ball State jazz band will play at the breakfast.

Brunch counts as a meal swipe for students with a meal plan along with two guests. For additional guests 10 and over or those without meal plans, the brunch costs $9.95 plus tax. It is $6.95 for children younger than 10.

There will also be a Family Weekend Golf Outing on Sunday.

Check in is at 8 a.m. at the Muncie Elks Country Club. According to the Family Weekend website, the outing costs $200 for a team and $50 for singles, with proceeds supporting student development programs.

"We will have door prizes as well as prizes for winner and longest drive and other fun things," organizer Jon Shields said.

Shields said there will be donuts for breakfast and Papa John's pizza later in the day.

Despite what the flier said, Shields said walk-ins will be accepted. Contact Shields at jtshields@bsu.edu to register.
